What is a good AP® Precalculus score?
Receiving a 3, 4, or 5 is generally accepted as scoring well on an AP® exam. According to the College Board, a 3 is ‘qualified,’ a 4 is ‘well qualified,’ and a 5 is ‘extremely well qualified’. Depending on the school, college credits may be offered for scores within the 3-5 range. To review the AP® Credit Policy for schools you’re considering, use the College Board’s search tool.
When assessing your potential performance on the AP® Precalculus exam, consider both the challenging nature of the subject and how your score might compare with those of other students. While specific score distributions for AP® Precalculus are not available yet, you can look at related subjects to gauge the general scoring trends and set realistic expectations for your results.
Why are AP® Precalculus scores curved?
The scoring process for AP® exams, including AP® Precalculus, involves a yearly curve that the College Board implements. This approach maintains consistency and standardizes student performance across the board. Essentially, since AP® courses like Precalculus are at a college-level, the scoring criteria mirror the rigor found in comparable college courses. Therefore, these guidelines ensure that the tests evaluate student performance in alignment with the high standards expected in higher education.
How do I get a 5 on AP® Precalculus?
A high score on the AP® Precalculus exam demands a blend of determination and a well-structured study routine. The AP® Precalculus exam doesn’t just evaluate a student’s understanding of advanced mathematical concepts. It also assesses their ability to apply these concepts and their skill in recognizing connections between different mathematical expressions. A solid foundation in algebra, functions, geometry, and trigonometry is necessary. These are the cornerstones for more complex precalculus topics. Keep these in mind, as they are just as pivotal despite the course’s focus on preparing students for calculus.
