Subject Organization

Albert's NJSLA/NJGPA Algebra I course is organized by content themes and further broken down into topics. All questions reflect the rigor, standards, and style of questions on the NJSLA Algebra I exam and the NJGPA Math exam in New Jersey.

Themes

Our full NJSLA/NJGPA Algebra I subject guide includes 4 themes that align with the different types of tasks on the exam:
  • Sub-claim A | Major Content
  • Sub-claim B | Additional and Supporting Content
  • Sub-claim C | Reasoning
  • Sub-claim D | Modeling

Topic Quizzes

Within the Major Content and Additional and Supporting Content themes, you'll find short, formative topic quizzes. Each topic quiz is designed to be given in a single class period. The quiz questions mimic the rigor and format of the actual exam and include only Type I (machine-graded) questions. For example, here are some topic quizzes within the Major Content theme:
  • Topic Quiz | Understand and Evaluate Functions
  • Topic Quiz | Graphs and Key Features of Linear Functions
  • Topic Quiz | Graphs and Key Features of Quadratic Functions
  • Topic Quiz | Graphs and Key Features of Exponential Functions

Free Response Questions

Within the Reasoning and Modeling themes, you'll find free response questions (sometimes called "constructed response" questions) that mirror the Type II and Type III tasks on the NJSLA Algebra I and NJGPA Math exam. For example, here are some free response questions within the Reasoning theme:
  • Reasoning Rational and Irrational Numbers
  • Transformations of Functions with Quadratics
  • Chains of Reasoning with Quadratics

Using Standards and Tags to Find Questions

Standards

Every question is aligned to the standards outlined in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Mathematics or the New Jersey Evidence Statements. Each standard begins with the state abbreviation NJ.
You can find questions aligned to learning standards using our standards search tool. In the Standards drop-down at the top of the Assessments tab, you can search for standards by name (for example, NJ A.SSE.A.1) or description. When you type in characters that match one of the standards, the drop-down will populate with matching standards.

Tags

In addition to standards, each question is assigned one or more tags to help differentiate between the wide variety of questions we offer. These tags are a word or phrase that are content-related, as well as tags that specify whether or not a question allows a calculator. All words in a tag are lower-case and multiple word tags connected by a hyphen. For example, “rate-of-change" or "domain”.
To search for a tag, click the Tags drop-down within the subject and enter the tag or content you're searching for in the search bar.
