Subject Organization
Albert's TELPAS Grades 8-9 course is organized into themes with practice questions based on the four language domains. It also includes [2] full-length practice exams. All questions are aligned to the exact format, rigor, and topics of the real exam.
Practice Guide
Within each theme, topics are consistent with the skills and question types assessed on the exam. For example, the Reading-Focused Questions theme includes the following topics:
- Word Identification
- Fill-in-the-Blank
- Narrative Passage
- Informational Passages
Free Response Guide
The Free Response Guide includes Writing and Speaking themes and topics that mimic the prompt type on the exam. For example, the Writing theme includes the following topics:

- Tell a Story
- In the Past
Assessment Guide
Our Assessment Guide contains two full-length practice exams. The exam questions mimic the rigor and format of the actual exam. The exam is divided into 2 sections: The Reading and Writing and the Listening and Speaking.
- Full-Length Practice #1 is meant to be a mid-year practice assessment with more beginning and intermediate-level questions than advanced and advanced-high questions.
- Full-Length Practice #2 is meant to be an end-of-year practice assessment with equal questions across the four proficiency levels: beginning, intermediate, advanced, and advanced-high.
Unique TELPAS Features
In addition to themes organized by language domain, our TELPAS courses also include unique Albert-only features that help to ensure students’ progress in learning and mastering the English language.

Using Standards and Tags to Find Questions
Standards
Every question is aligned to the standards outlined in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills English Language Proficiency Standards and Student Expectations. Each standard begins with the state abbreviation ELPS.SE.
You can find questions aligned to learning standards using our standards search tool. In the Standards drop-down at the top of the Assessments tab, you can search for standards by name (for example, ELPS.SE.RC1.R.4) or description. When you type in characters that match one of the standards, the drop-down will populate with matching standards.
Tags
In addition to standards, each question is assigned one or more tags to help differentiate between the reporting categories and the four language proficiency descriptors. The questions include tags like "reporting-category-1," "reporting-category-2," or "reporting-category-3." The course also includes tags like "beginning-reading," "intermediate-speaking," or "advanced-listening" that correspond to the difficulty level of the question.
To search for a tag, click the Tags drop-down within the subject and enter the tag or content you're searching for in the search bar.
