Subject Organization

Albert's CAASPP ELA course is organized into themes and further broken into short, formative assessments on specific topics.

Themes

Our full subject guide includes 2 themes that align with the different Claims assessed on the exam:
  • Topic Quizzes
  • Performance Tasks

Topic Quizzes

Our topic quiz theme contains a set of short, formative topic quizzes. Each topic quiz is designed to be given in a single class period. The quiz questions mimic the rigor and format of the actual exam. For example, here are some topic quizzes for Claim 2.
  • Topic Quiz | Claim 2: Brief Writes
  • Topic Quiz | Claim 2: Revision

Performance Tasks

Our Performance Tasks present students with a single, real-life scenario that requires students to synthesize multiple sources of information, critically analyze, and develop an extended response to a real-world problem.
  • Performance Task | Binge Watching TV

Using Standards and Tags to Find Questions

Standards

Every question is aligned to the standards outlined in the California Common Core English Language Arts Standards. Each standard begins with the state abbreviation CA.
You can find questions aligned to learning standards using our standards search tool. In the Standards drop-down at the top of the Assessments tab, you can search for standards by name (for example, CA 11-12.RI.1) or description. When you type in characters that match one of the standards, the drop-down will populate with matching standards.

Tags

In addition to standards, each question is assigned one or more tags to help differentiate between the wide variety of questions we offer. Each question in this course is tagged by claim, depth-of-knowledge, and assessment target. For example, you could search for "claim-1" within tags and find results for all questions in the course that assess Claim 1- Reading.
To search for a tag, click the Tags drop-down within the subject and enter the tag or content you're searching for in the search bar.
