Subject Organization

Albert's NJSLA/NJGPA Geometry course is organized into themes and further broken into short, formative assessments on specific topics.

Themes

Our full NJSLA/NJGPA Geometry subject guide includes 4 themes that align with the different types of tasks on the exam:
  • Sub-claim A | Major Content
  • Sub-claim B | Additional and Supporting Content
  • Sub-claim C | Reasoning
  • Sub-claim D | Modeling

Topic Quizzes

Within the Major Content and Additional and Supporting Content themes, you'll find short, formative topic quizzes. Each topic quiz is designed to be given in a single class period. The quiz questions mimic the rigor and format of the actual exam and include only Type I (machine-graded) questions. For example, here are some topic quizzes within the Major Content theme:
  • Topic Quiz | Geometric Theorems
  • Topic Quiz | Trigonometric Ratios
  • Topic Quiz | Solving Right Triangles
  • Topic Quiz | Coordinate Geometry

Free Response Questions

Within the Reasoning and Modeling themes, you'll find free response questions (sometimes called "constructed response" questions) that mirror the Type II and Type III tasks on the NJSLA/NJGPA Geometry exam. For example, here are some free response questions within the Reasoning theme:
  • Geometric Reasoning with Parallelograms
  • Chains of Reasoning with Transversals
  • Multi-Step Problems with Angles of Elevation

Using Standards and Tags to Find Questions

Standards

Every question is aligned to the standards outlined in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Mathematics (all questions) or the New Jersey Evidence Statements (for Type II and Type III questions). Each standard begins with the state abbreviation NJ.
You can find questions aligned to learning standards using our standards search tool. In the Standards drop-down at the top of the Assessments tab, you can search for standards by name (for example, NJ G.CO.A.1) or description. When you type in characters that match one of the standards, the drop-down will populate with matching standards.

Tags

In addition to standards, each question is assigned one or more tags to help differentiate between the wide variety of questions we offer. These tags are a word or phrase that describes the content of the question, with all words lower-case and multiple word tags connected by a hyphen. For example, “perpendicular-lines” or “geometric-model”.
To search for a tag, click the Tags drop-down within the subject and enter the tag or content you're searching for in the search bar.

Calculator Use

Students are permitted to use a graphing calculator (with functionalities consistent with TI-84 or similar models) on some (not all) sections of the NJSLA/NJGPA Geometry math exams.
Albert's NJSLA/NJGPA Geometry prep course clarifies calculator use for each question in three ways:
  • Question title: questions will have either "(Calculator Allowed)" or "(No Calculator)" in the title.
  • Question prompt: all NJSLA Geometry math prompts will state whether a calculator is allowed or not.
  • Question tag: to easily filter questions, all of Albert's NJSLA Geometry math questions are tagged with either "calculator-allowed" or "no-calculator."
