Subject Organization

Albert's Reading Skills course is organized into one tabs: the Practice tab which includes 3 themes.

Practice Tab

Our Reading Skills course includes 3 themes:
  • Building Reading Skills with Short Passages
  • Applying Reading Skills with Long Passages (Foundational)
  • Applying Reading Skills with Long Passages (Advanced)
The Building Reading Skills with Short Passages theme is divided into reading skills such as:
  • Citing Evidence
  • Identifying the Central Idea
  • Interpreting Word Connotation
Each section includes1 short passage with 1 discrete question and questions about similar topics are grouped by title.
The Applying Reading Skills with Longer Passages themes are organized by passage genres:
  • Arts and Culture
  • History and Social Studies
  • Science
  • Paired Passages
Each subtopic includes 1 long passage with 8-10 questions covering a variety of integrated reading skills.

Using Standards and Tags to Find Questions

Standards

All Albert questions are aligned to state standards relevant to the subject matter. Albert’s Core ELA questions are aligned to Common Core Standards for English Language Arts. 
This standards alignment provides another easy way to find useful questions besides the Theme and Topic organization. Using the Standards button at the top left corner of any subject page, you can filter for just your state’s standard set then simply search for your state’s standards to find all questions in our course library aligned to that standard! For more details, please see this article in our Help section.
In addition to searching by the standards’ names, you can also search by their content! Simply type in a few words from the standard description to see all relevant standards pertaining to that content.

Tags

Albert’s Core ELA courses include 2 types of tags, reading skills tags and reading content tags.  These are words or phrases that provide information about what a question covers, such as “textual-evidence” or “world-literature”. Tags provide another easy way to search for relevant **content in our course library. Simply search using the Tags button at the top left corner of any guidelevel.

Question Types

Reading Skills uses a variety of question types to test students’ understanding of content and provide meaningful practice of important skills.

  • Fill-in-the-blank
  • Snippet Select
